Thank you for your interest in the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Seven degree options are offered (see list below) in architecture, urban planning and urban design, which will prepare you for a career in professional practice, teaching, or research. A Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Development is also offered.
In addition, joint/dual degrees allow you to design an individual curriculum which meets the requirements of two programs without overlap in subject matter and permits reduction of one-sixth the total credit hours normally required for both degrees. You must apply separately to each program. It is also possible for students to initiate dual degrees with other disciplines.

Bachelor of Science (Architecture): Freshman or pre-architecture transfer applicants apply to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. 2G Option Master of Architecture Program: Prospective students must have earned a previous Bachelor of Science degree in architecture in a program equivalent to Years 1,2,3, and 4 of the University of Michigan Architecture Program. 3G Option Master of Architecture Program: Prospective students with prior non-architectural bachelor's degrees may apply for admission to the Architecture Program as graduate students through the 3G Option Master of Architecture Program. Master of Science: The Master of Science degree is an advanced, post-professional degree in architectural research. It introduces students to knowledge in a specialized area as well as to modes of research/scholarship in architecture and related disciplines. Although students are typically recent recipients of a professional architecture degree, the M.Sc. also provides midcareer professionals, as well as graduates with degrees in fields related to architecture (such as art history or engineering), the opportunity to pursue architectural research in ways that will challenge and enrich their understanding of the discipline. The M.Sc. provides an additional credential that enables its graduates to pursue research-based practices, teach in schools of architecture, and/or pursue doctoral studies. Ph.D. in Architecture: The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Architecture degree is the highest degree offered in architectural research and scholarship. Students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct substantive and original work in a specialized area that creates a deeper and broader understanding of the discipline of architecture, including its theoretical and methodological bases, and contributes to its development. Master of Urban Design: Students applying to this post-professional degree program must have earned one (or more) of the following degrees: 5-year Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Urban Planning, or the international equivalent.
